Ravi Teja’s latest devotional outing Irumudi, which turned out to be an epic blockbuster with an impressive run after its release last Friday, has come under intense criticism from a Teachers Association in Andhra Pradesh over negative portrayal of the education system in certain scenes.
Demanding immediate removal of the controversial scenes, the AP Teachers’ Federation ( APTF) stated that the film misrepresents government schools, their students, and educators, damaging the reputation of the public education system.
APTF State President Chennupati Manjula and General Secretary Basavalingarao issued a joint statement on the issue and noted that movies hold immense power to shape public perception on social issues. They emphasized that filmmakers must be cautious when handling sensitive issues relating to the public.
According to the association, the Shiva Nirvana directional portrays a government school teacher in a negative light. It noted that the film explicitly names the Zilla Parishad High School in Sileru, Alluri Sitharama Raju district, and uses the exact uniform worn by government school students across Andhra Pradesh.
Calling these scenes demeaning and unnecessary, the APTF urged that the filmmakers to immediately remove all content that defames government teachers and the public school system.
The makers of Irumudi are yet to respond on the controversy as those scenes were very crucial for movie’s plot. The film is currently having a dream run at the box office in Telugu states and Overseas.
