Kriti Sanon’s Raksha Bandhan ad for a jewellery brand has sparked controversy, with BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut taking aim at Kriti’s outfit.
Kriti was criticised for wearing a bralette-style blouse in the festive ad. Kangana called the advertisement “intentionally creepy”. Though she did not name Kriti directly, the reference was clear.
Kriti has now hit back, defending the ad and her choice of clothing. She said women should not be told what to wear and stressed that traditions are about emotions and values, not clothing.
“Traditions are in the heart, not the neckline,” Kriti said in response to the criticism.
She also explained the ad’s decision to show a rakhi being tied to a dog. Kriti said Raksha Bandhan is about a bond of protection, adding that she and her sister tie rakhi to each other because they believe they can protect one another just as a brother would.
Kriti, who is known to Telugu audiences for her role opposite Mahesh Babu in One Nenokkadine, said festivals should not be reduced to a debate over clothing. What matters, she stressed, is the emotion and meaning behind the tradition.
The controversy has now turned into a public clash of views between two prominent actresses, with Kriti making her stand clear on both her outfit and the advertisement.
