Going into the news, Tamil television artist Latha Rao recently shared her painful experience on social media platforms on how she faced an urgent need for sanitary pads while waiting at the Chennai airport and had to rush across terminals to find one.
When her online post went viral and reached the apex authorities, an immediate action followed up. The Chennai airport will soon put 36 sanitary napkin vending machines in women restrooms across terminal buildings by the end of September.
Responding to public criticism, officials said previous sanitary napkin machines were stopped temporarily due to complaints regarding frequent misuse
The Airports Authority of India decided this new step after many passengers expressed concern over missing pad dispensers inside airport toilets. Officials said the facility will become fully operational from October 1 to help female travelers.
In her online post, Latha Rao urged every woman traveler to check sanitary pads as essential items like keys or home gas switches before leaving home.
