‘Janhvi’s Param Sundari Felt Like An Insult To Kerala Culture’

Oftentimes, Bollywood fails to understand the South when they try to represent south culture on the big screen. Sometimes, they misrepresent culture, language and the way of life. In the recent past, there is one Hindi film that completely got Kerala’s lifestyle wrong, and it is Param Sundari.

Siddharth Malhotra and Jahnvi Kapoor played the lead roles in the film. Now, Kerala-based actress Ananthika Sanilkumar opened up in a recent interview that the film felt like an insult to Kerala culture.

Ananthika shared her opinion that she thought the film would be a good watch but felt that many scenes did not come out well. Additionally, she claimed that in one particular scene, Jahnvi is seen serving food from a small bowl, which is usually not the norm in Kerala, or anyone could easily understand that, but it failed.

In the film, the makers went overboard in depicting the lives of Keralites, especially the girls. They tried to present Jahnvi glamorously, and her character in the film climbs the coconut trees, does insignificant things in the name of culture, and even gets certain things completely wrong.

Earlier, Alia Bhatt was shown as a Tamil girl in 2 States but the presentation did not go overboard. But, Janhvi’s depiction is a complete misfire on the big screen.

Ananthika Sanilkumar was seen in Telugu films Mad, 8 Vasanthalu and the most recent Romanchakam which became a hit at the box office.
