What started as a small regional film made on a Rs 2 crore budget has turned into a national sensation, with Hanuman Ansh now heading towards the Rs 200 crore mark at the Indian box office. The devotional drama is all set to take its success overseas, and the advance sales are quite encouraging.
The film has crossed USD 150,000 in North American pre-sales ahead of its September 11 release and is set for a wide release across 170+ locations with a strong theatrical footprint. This kind of strong advance sales and release indicate that the film has already generated huge buzz among overseas audiences.
Touted as a biographical film on Neem Karoli Baba, Hanuman Ansh brings his spiritual journey to the big screen. Set in pre-Independence India, the story follows young Lakshmi Narayan, who leaves home after his mother’s death in search of God.
His journey across North India and his spiritual experiences eventually transform him into the revered spiritual figure known as Neem Karoli Baba. Written and directed by Dr Vishal Chaturvedi, the film stars Shobhit Srivastava and Chandan Anand in the lead roles.
From a Rs 2 crore regional film to a near Rs 200 crore Indian box-office phenomenon, Hanuman Ansh has already delivered a remarkable turnaround. Can the film now create the same magic with audiences outside India. Going by the solid pre-sales, it looks like Hanuman Ansh madness is loading in North America. Stay tuned.
