Big Development! PVR INOX To Waive Off VPF Charges!

In what can be termed as a Significant Development, Country’s Biggest Multiplex Chain, PVR INOX has informed the Competition Commission of India that it would cease to charge the Virtual Print Fee (VPF) from Producers.

The VPF was initially a short-gap arrangement. The theaters were to upgrade from Physical Prints to Digital and they were paying the fee to the Digital Companies for every film.

But the Sunset Clause never happened and the VPF continued even today. This has become a burden to the Producers. For a film like Irumudi, the VPF Charges would amount to upwards of One Crore Rupees.

This has become a huge burden to several small and medium-range films. PVR INOX waiving that will help the Producers big time.

But then, already the Producers are tilted towards the Multiplexes, this will mean more trouble for the Single Screens. The Single Screens already offered to absorb these Fees provided they are also given the Percentage System.
