Jailer In Black And White: An Experiment Not For Everyone?

The Jailer franchise has emerged as a major success, and cinematographer Vijay Karthik Kannan has now revealed an interesting idea that he and director Nelson Dilipkumar have been dreaming about.

In a recent interaction, Vijay was asked whether the confidence gained from both Jailer films could encourage the team to try something new. He revealed that he and Nelson have discussed releasing Jailer in an entirely black-and-white version.

He even referred to Spider-Noir, the monochrome-style take on the Spider-Man universe, while explaining that Nelson is also a big fan of monochrome visuals and that such a thing is possible.

The idea sounds exciting, as a black-and-white version could give the film a different atmosphere and make its action sequences, character elevations, and dramatic moments feel nostalgic.

However, the big question is whether this experiment will work with mainstream audiences. While many may welcome the change, the Jailer franchise also attracts a large commercial audience that enjoys larger-than-life moments in colourful visuals.

If the makers decide to release this version, it could become an interesting experiment. Still, its box-office potential would depend on how many viewers are willing to revisit the film in black and white.

Even if the makers avoid a theatrical release, a digital release may also have limited reach. Audiences have been used to watching films in colour for years, and a sudden shift to black and white may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
