Small films usually fight hard for every bit of visibility. That makes Secret Soldier’s handling of “Enno Asalu” rather unusual.
The song, sung by Sunil Kashyap and written by Rehman, feels like the emotional heart of the album, yet it arrived quietly inside the jukebox without a lyrical video, launch event or separate promotional push.
That restraint seems to reflect a larger strategy around the film.
Unlike the usual practice of dropping a trailer close to release and then aggressively pushing the YouTube counter, the makers of Secret Soldier appear to have avoided chasing numbers merely for optics. In fact, several comments under the trailer itself questioned why a trailer receiving positive reactions had relatively modest views.
Director Akki Viswanadha Reddy reportedly clarified that the intention was to measure the reach rather than merely show the reach.
That approach is now beginning to show results across platforms. The trailer has crossed around 8 lakh views on YouTube, which may still look modest on paper, but its wider digital spread tells a different story.
On Instagram, trailer-related content reportedly generated around 15 million views against roughly 6 million reach, while Way2News contributed another 1.7 million views. Instead of concentrating the entire campaign on a single platform, the makers seem to have spread attention across Instagram, news platforms, digital ads, media and YouTube.
That makes the quiet release of “Enno Asalu” feel less accidental and more in line with the campaign’s broader approach.
While “Oye Oye” explores social satire and “Bhaga Bhaga” carries a patriotic flavour, “Enno Asalu” turns inward with a more emotional and reflective mood. Lines like “Ye daaro vethikaavu, nee daare marichaavu” and “Neetho nuvve yuddham chesthoo nityam” give the song a deeply introspective quality.
For a small film from a relatively unknown production house, the attempt to follow a planned strategy rather than simply shoot in the dark is a welcome sign.
However, all this visibility and experimentation will ultimately matter only if it translates at the box office. That is the real test Secret Soldier faces now.
The film will test its luck with paid premieres on September 17 night, followed by its full theatrical release on September 18.
For all the experimentation in promotion, the final verdict will come from audiences in theatres.
And for me, “Enno Asalu” remains the pick of the album.
