Supriya Yarlagadda has been appointed as one of the 18 members of the newly reconstituted Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Government of India announced the new board on Wednesday and the appointments have come into effect immediately.
The new CBFC board features several well-known names from the Indian film industry. Actors including Manoj Joshi, Suniel Shetty, Preity Zinta, Pankaj Tripathi and Pallavi Joshi have been included in the board. Filmmaker Priyadarshan and Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee are also among the new members.
Supriya Yarlagadda is a familiar name in Telugu cinema and has been associated with the film industry through Annapurna Studios and film production. Her appointment gives Telugu cinema representation in the new CBFC board.
The new board has been constituted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting under the Cinematograph Act. The members will serve for three years or until further orders.
The CBFC plays an important role in the Indian film industry as it examines films and issues certifications before their public release. With several prominent film personalities now part of the board, the new team is expected to bring significant industry experience to the certification process.
The inclusion of Supriya Yarlagadda is particularly notable for the Telugu film industry, considering her long association with the cinema business.
