Will ‘CM Son’ Save Struggling Producer?

Lyca Productions is one of the top production houses in Indian cinema. Their filmography includes Kaithi, Khaidi No. 150, 2.O, Ponniyin Selvan, and many other big-budget flicks. However, the production house is struggling to claim success. Now, they are betting big on Tamil Nadu CM Vijay’s son Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut, Sigma. The film is gearing up for a grand release on 2nd of October, and the team is pumped for its success.

We have already witnessed the trailer, and Jason Sanjay has gone for a lively commercial treatment rather than keeping the film confined to a serious crime drama. The treatment looks a bit stylish, typically drifting away from the usual Tamil film format.

Sandeep Kishan plays the lead role, and Faria Abdullah plays the heroine. The film is getting good deals from the trade, and reportedly, the main driving factor is none other than Sanjay’s father, Brand Vijay.

So far, Sigma is generating positive buzz in film circles, and the pre-release buzz is strong. Sanjay is also seen speaking highly of his father, Vijay, at all the events, drawing special attention. As each event is getting a good response, especially with Vijay fans’ support, it will be interesting to see whether Vijay fans turn out in large numbers for the film’s FDFS.

As Vijay has officially quit films ahead of the election and become CM in his very first attempt, Vijay fans may not get to see him on the big screen anytime soon, or perhaps ever again. So, the legacy may have to be carried forward by Jason. It remains to be seen whether that same craze will translate into Jason’s direction or whether he will replicate his father’s journey when he eventually makes his acting debut.

Irrespective of the film’s result, Sanjay may continue to get work as a director and even as an actor. But Sigma is crucial for Lyca Productions, which has struggled for the past few years with back-to-back disasters. Only if the film registers a substantial success, it could bring out Indian 3 and commission other biggies.
