Shriya Saran On Body Parts In AI Morphed Explicit Images

Actor Shriya Saran has raised concerns over the growing misuse of artificial intelligence to create sexually explicit images of women without their consent. The Drishyam 3 actor revealed that she has also been targeted by digitally manipulated images, highlighting how increasingly realistic AI-generated content is making it difficult to distinguish between what is real and what is fabricated.

Manipulated pictures can sometimes look so convincing that even she sometimes struggles to recognise whether the person depicted is actually her. Other times, morphing can include changing the size of b**bs or removing clothes of the person. “It’s funny. Sometimes, I don’t even know if it’s me.”

Acknowledging the usefulness of AI, she said, “While AI has a lot to give us and a lot to help us with, there’s also a lot it can change for us. It can lead to things that can be dangerous. I think that applies to every technology.” The actor added that society would eventually have to find ways to deal with the challenges posed by AI as the technology becomes more widespread.

Recently, an AI-altered video involving Janhvi Kapoor sparked outrage, with several members of the film fraternity criticising the non-consensual use of technology to sexualise women. Such incidents have intensified discussions about the responsibility of social media platforms, the need for stronger safeguards and the difficulties victims face when trying to have manipulated content removed.

Shriya acknowledged that the industry still has a long way to go, but said change has begun. Her comments highlight a broader concern about women’s representation and agency, both within the entertainment industry and in the digital world, where technological advancements have created new avenues for harassment and exploitation.
