Ram Charan and Sukumar’s RC 17 has started with a grand pooja ceremony yesterday. As the film is coming after Rangasthalam, the movie combination has created huge excitement among fans. While Ram Charan’s role and Sukumar’s direction are major talking points, the heroine’s character is also expected to play a very important role in this film. There are several reasons why the female lead’s character has become a key discussion point even before the movie goes on floors.
Recently Ram Charan’s Peddi directed by Sukumar’s student Buchi Babu Sana faced criticism over Janvi Kapoor’s character. Many viewers felt that her role did not receive enough importance in the story. The film also received negative comments about the way the heroine was presented. It became a big controversy and debate across all industries. This has even raised questions about the importance of female characters in big star films.
Interestingly similar discussion has emerged around The Paradise directed by Srikanth Odela another filmmaker associated with Sukumar’s school of filmmaking. Even in this film, Kayadu Lohar’s character has reportedly left some viewers questioning its purpose and importance in the story. These examples have increased the discussion about how directors influenced by Sukumar handle their female characters.
Sukumar is known for presenting his heroes in powerful and also in different ways. But some of his films have also faced criticism over the treatment of heroine characters.
Rangasthalam received comments about the presentation of Samantha’s character while Rashmika Mandanna’s role in Pushpa also became a topic of discussion.
Although Rashmika’s character in Pushpa 2 had some important moments, Pushpa 1 received many complaints. Now with Sukumar joining hands with Ram Charan again after Rangasthalam, expectations are high. The director has a chance to present a strong female character that must have importance in the story instead of being limited to romance or glamour.
The criticism surrounding Peddi may also increase expectations for RC 17. Since Buchi Babu Sana is Sukumar’s student, some viewers may compare how both directors handle their heroines. So makers should ensure that the female lead has a strong purpose in the story.
Ram Charan’s performance and Sukumar’s direction are already major attractions. But a well written heroine character could become another big strength of the film.
So, audiences want more than just a star hero. They also expect meaningful characters and a strong story. RC 17 has an opportunity to deliver that balance. With all this, as of now the heroine’s character has already emerged as one of the major talking points of RC 17 even before the film shooting goes on floors.
