Does Radhika Apte Have a Problem Only With South Films?

Bollywood actress Radhika Apte leaves no chance when it comes to talk about her experience in Telugu cinema. Her recent comments have again started a discussion among Telugu movie fans. Many people feel that she is always ready to point out problems in South Indian films even though she has acted in only a few Telugu movies.

Radhika Apte recently spoke about her experience working in South film. She said she was asked to play a character who had to marry her own uncle. She also mentioned that she was paired opposite a much older hero and that her character was killed halfway through the movie.

She connected these experiences to patriarchy in the film industry. However, her comments have raised an important question. Did she not know about the story and her character before signing the film.

An actress usually listens to the story and understands her role before accepting a project. If Radhika had a problem with the storyline or the hero’s age or her character’s ending then she could have rejected the film at that time.

Speaking about a bad experience is completely fair. But bringing up the same issues years later and presenting them as problems with Telugu cinema has made some people question her intentions.

Interestingly, she has also acted in Bollywood projects such as Lust Stories which explored bold and controversial subjects. There is nothing wrong with choosing such roles. But why does acting opposite an older hero or playing a character with an unusual marriage become a major issue only when it happens in Telugu cinema.

Telugu cinema may have its own problems, just like every other film industry. But an actress targeting Telugu films or South films alone repeatedly is not fair.

Bollywood has also produced films with questionable storylines, uncomfortable relationships and unequal treatment of women. Whatever it is, question to Radhika Apte from netizens in social media is very simple that If she had concerns about the film then why did she agree to act in it in the first place.
