Court Shocks Kangana, Says She Did ‘Grave Violation’

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut suffered a setback after a civil court rejected her plea seeking to restrain the Mumbai civic body, Birhanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), from demolishing her three flats in Khar area of the city.

The court in suburban Dindoshi dismissed the application filed by the actress last week saying that she violated the sanctioned plan while merging her three flats.

In the order, Justice LS Chavan noted that Ranaut, who owns three flats on the 5th floor in a 16-storeyed building, merged them into one and in doing so, she covered the sunk area, duct area, common passage and converted free floor space index into habitable area.

“These are grave violations of the sanctioned plan for which the permission of the competent authority is required,” the court said.

In March 2018, the BMC issued a notice to Ranaut with regard to unauthorised constructions at her Khar flats. The civic body, in another notice, asked her to restore the structure to its original position as per the original plan. Else, it warned of demolishing the unauthorised portion in the building.

The actor challenged the demolition notice and requested the court to restrain the civic body from going ahead with its plan. The court had then ordered status quo.

In the latest order on December 23, the court rejected Ranaut’s application, saying the “interference of court is not required”. However, the actress has been given six-week time to move the Bombay High Court against the order.

It may be recalled that on September 9, the Mumbai civic body had demolished some portion of Kangana’s Manikarnika Films office in Pali Hill area, Bandra, for ‘unauthorsied’ alterations and she moved the High Court challenging the action. The High Court termed the BMC’s action as illegal and malicious.
