On Monday, the Tamil Nadu government has increased the seating capacity in theatres to its full strength and this brought a cheer in Kollywood producers who had many hopes for the Pongal. This impact has influenced the Tollywood producers too and they made a request to the governments of Telugu states to hike the occupancy in theatres.
The Telugu Film Producers Council (TFPC) has written to the AP and Telangana governments and put their request before them. The TFPC has cited the TN government’s decision in their letter and added that the fifty percent seating capacity has further pushed the theatres and multiplexes into financial trouble as the expenditure is more.
However, in Tamil Nadu the decision to hike the seating occupancy is taken only after noticing a drop in daily Covid-19 cases. Coming to the Telugu states, the trend is similar but the Uk strain of virus is causing a worrisome. A couple of mutant strain cases have been reported in both the Telugu states so far but the health officials assured not to panic.
We shall see if AP and Telangana governments consider TFPC’s request. Meanwhile the first film to release for Sankranthi is ‘Krack’ on January 9th.
