Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam President Kamal Haasan has been defeated in the hands of BJP’s Vanathi Srinivasan. Kamal, who had contested from Coimbatore South constituency, did give a tough fight. After a close race, BJP’s Vanathi Srinivasan has won by a margin of 1728 votes.
While Vanathi has secured 53,209 votes, Kamal got 51,481 votes. Congress state working president Mayura Jayakumar, who contested from the same constituency with the backing of DMK, got 41,426 votes. The triangular fight resulted in the split of votes and finally it spoiled the Kamal’s winning chances. This was the first time Kamal Haasan has faced a direct election.
The MNM party had fielded 42 candidates of the total 234 Assembly seats. The party forged an alliance with the All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi. However, none of the candidates of Kamal’s front have won. With this, Kamal scored zero in his political debut.
Stalin’s DMK has got a resounding victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election. While ruling AIADMK did give a decent fight, it couldn’t withstand against Stalin’s surge. DMK won about 154 seats, AIADMK was restricted to 80 seats whereas MNM didn’t open its account.
