Nenu Student Sir Review

After Swathi Muthyam, Bellamkonda Ganesh is testing his luck as hero with Nenu Student Sir. The film comes from the Naandhi producer and it introduces director Teja’s protege Raki Uppalapati as director. Will Ganesh be second-time lucky? Let’s check out.

Plot:

Subbu (Bellamkonda Ganesh) hails from a middle-class family. His dream is to buy an Iphone. He finally cherishes his dream and develops an emotional connection with it. But he loses the phone in an unexpected incident. He even gets close to his co-student Sruthi (Avantika), daughter of Commissioner Arjun Vasudevan (Samuthirakani). Subbu’s efforts to get his mobile lands him in a serious trouble – murder case of fellow student. Realising that he was trapped in the case, Subbu digs deeper and he unearths a serious scam. The film is about how Subbu comes out of the case and finds the real culprits.

Performances

It is a crime thriller and the protagonist needs more strength and dynamism. Bellamkonda Ganesh is good as underdog Subbu. Avantika as heroine got better screen presence but she failed to make a mark. Samuthirakani as Commissioner Arjun Vasudevan does justice to his role. Srikanth Iyengar is just okay. All other characters just come and go. Weak villains take away the serious essence in the story.

Technicalities

Krishna Chaitanya has penned a dated story. The writing is predictable and twists are weak. The film is bogged down by slow narration. Debutante director Raki has failed to deliver an engaging direction. Songs failed to do the magic. Editing could be better.

Analysis

Nenu Student Sir has a weak premise where the protagonist has an emotional bond with his costly mobile phone and losing it sets the base for the story. It is a thin-point and deserves a lot more to appeal to audiences. Writer Krishna Chaitanya did link the lost mobile phone to a large bank scam. But both are two separate worlds. The connecting link failed to engage. The love story of Subbu with Commissioner’s daughter Sruthi is very outdated and cliched as well.

The concept of unclaimed bank accounts and scam associated with it is a good idea. It was lost in translation. The counter-scam by Subbu & his friends is effective. But by the time it is shown, it is too late. The twists in the narration are weak. Police hunt and chase scenes look silly as the protagonist roams freely. These are cinematic liberties taken for convenience which didn’t work. The climax is on a predictable note. The culprits behind such a large crime deserve to be more influential in society with political support. The end names in the scam tones down the film. Overall, this Student is outdated with some scenes working here and there.
