Satyabhama Movie Review

Kajal Aggarwal has been doing very few films after her marriage. She is usually known for her glamorous roles, but now she has taken on a ferocious cop character in the film Satyabhama. This action thriller, directed by Suman Chikkala, hit the screens today. With Kajal seen in a different avatar, there has been good anticipation built around it. Let’s check out how the movie turned out to be:

Story:

Satyabhama (Kajal) is a sincere, honest, and dedicated police officer who works as an Assistant Commissioner of Police. She is approached by a woman named Haseena, who reports domestic violence from her husband Yedhu. However, Haseena is killed by her husband. Distressed by Haseena’s death, Satyabhama starts investigating the case. During her investigation, Haseena’s brother Iqbal disappears. As Satyabhama delves deeper, she uncovers various conspiracies behind the murder. What are those conspiracies? How does Satyabhama catch the culprits? What challenges does she face in the process? To find out, you have to watch the film.

Performance:

Even though it is Kajal’s first time portraying such an intense role, she does a good job. However, she could’ve focused more on her fights and stunts, because action plays an important role in the movie.

It would be great to see her in more such intense and author-backed roles in the future. Ankith Koyya also impresses in his important role. Other talented actors like Prakash Raj, Naveen Chandra, Ravi Varma, and Harsha Vardhan are wasted in poorly written characters.

Technicalities:

Music plays an important role in intense action thrillers like this, but music composer Sricharan Pakala fails to deliver a good output for Satyabhama. Neither the songs nor the BGM are effective. Vishnu Besi’s cinematography is decent but not exceptional. Editing by Pavan Kalyan lacks coherence and is not effective. Production values are decent enough.

Analysis:

The story is written by Ramesh Yadma and Prashanth Reddy, with the screenplay handled by “Goodachari” director Sashikiran Thikka. Although the storyline is good, the screenplay fails miserably.

Debutant director Suman also failed in his execution. The team tries to address various issues like domestic violence, terrorism, and human trafficking but doesn’t explore any aspect in a full-fledged manner.

Halfway through the film, audiences will wonder what the director is trying to convey. It tries to be an action thriller at times and a suspense thriller at other times but fails to be either.

If the core story is centred around Haseena and her family, the writers should have given those characters more weight from the beginning. However, unnecessary scenes and characters in the beginning add no value. Overall, both writing and direction are major drawbacks of this movie.

Bottomline: Satyabhama – Sub Standard Bomma
