Sundeep Kishan’s ‘PR Talk’: A Harsh Reality

Sundeep Kishan is gaining attention in Tollywood as he is busy promoting his next film, Majaka. Directed by Trinadh Rao Nakkina, the film is hitting the screens on the 26th of February.

In a recent interview during Majaka’s promotions, Sundeep Kishan spoke candidly about the increasing influence of PR management on the film industry. He emphasized that PR is now essential, stating that without it, neither the audience nor the industry acknowledges an actor’s work.

Drawing comparisons to Bollywood, he noted that what was once a Mumbai-centric trend has also become the norm in Telugu cinema. He believes PR efforts shape public perception, sometimes influencing box office numbers by making even an average film appear successful.

Additionally, he addressed the toxicity of fan wars on social media, acknowledging that while some conflicts are organic, many are artificially fueled. He stressed the need for actors to engage with audiences consistently, using PR as a strategic tool to stay relevant.

Sundeep shared his views about the hyped collections posters: “Even if 40 percent of the people believe that movie’s box office collections are fake, the remaining 60 percent believe it to be real. The PR team does such things to convince at least some people. If the movie is mediocre, you can save it by doing PR,” he said.

Whatever Sundeep Kishan said holds true because, over the last two years, the PR game of every actor has completely changed. Especially in the scenario of pan-India films being made aggressively, PR has become essential. The actors are even ready to spend a bomb on their PR. The exaggerated collections, unnecessary hype, and the sudden emergence of fan wars on social media is all a part of the PR game. But, the fact that the film industry must realise is that it is doing more damage than the good. The more the trend continues, the more toxicity grows within the film industry, in turn making the audience get distanced from the good cinema.

Sundeep Kishan tasted hits previously with the films Ooru Peru Bhairavakona and Raayan. He pins big hopes on Majaka now. Let us hope that the film becomes a big hit at the box office.
