India Reacts Strongly to Trump’s Latest Warning

US President Donald Trump has once again targeted India, threatening to hike tariffs beyond 25 percent on Indian goods. His warning comes in response to India’s continued oil imports from Russia, which he claims are indirectly funding Russia’s war against Ukraine.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused India of buying large volumes of Russian oil and selling it in the open market at big profits. He said India is ignoring the deaths caused in Ukraine and that he will increase the tariffs India pays to the US as punishment.

This is the second time in recent weeks that Trump has warned of tariffs on India. However, this time, he said the penalties would be “significant” and gave no details on the exact percentage.

Reacting to Trump’s latest statement, Indian government officials responded that the country will continue to buy Russian oil based on its energy needs. They said India will not bow to pressure from any foreign leader and its trade decisions are based on national interest.

The Ministry of External Affairs also criticized Trump’s remarks, calling them one-sided and unfair. They questioned why India was being singled out when several Western countries also continue to import energy from Russia.

Prime Minister Modi did not respond directly, but in a recent public speech, he said India will not compromise on its economic and energy policies. His message was seen as a subtle reply to Trump’s threats.

India has made it clear: its global trade decisions won’t change under pressure.
