In June this year, a massive explosion at Sigachi Industries Limited located near Pashamailaram in Sangareddy district of Telangana killed 54 workers who were on duty. The heart wrenching incident came as a big shock to the entire nation and called for an immediate lawful action against the company authorities for not following adequate safety measures.
Nearly after six months, the BDL-Bhanur police on Saturday arrested Sigachi Industries Limited Chief Executive Officer Amit Raj Sinha, who was named as Accused No 2 in the case. As soon as the blast took place on June 30th, a case of culpable homicide was booked on the company’s management for negligence and flouting safety norms.
The arrest was made after the High Court insisted on action against the management while hearing a public interest litigation filed by a group of retired scientists. He was produced before the magistrate and has been sent for 14 days judicial remand to Kandi Central Jail. There are a total of six accused in the case and all belong to the same company.
The Telangana High Court has been expressing its dissent over the delay in the investigation process of this case. It repeatedly questioned why no one was arrested months after the blast, despite witness statements and prima facie evidence.
A few days ago, the state govt-appointed technical expert committee reported that the accident occurred due to the negligence of the Sigachi management. The Revanth Reddy’s government and the company management promised to extend a financial support of 1 Crore to the families of all 54 victims who hail from North India states.
