In a hapless incident, an NRI who recently moved from abroad to Firozepur district in Punjab died after a loaded pistol misfired when he was getting off from a sofa at home. The victim, identified as Harpinder Singh alias Sonu, belongs to Dhani Sucha Singh Village in Firozepur.
The dramatic visuals were caught on a CCTV camera and the video has gone viral since. Harpinder was sitting on a sofa with a relative when the mishap happened. As she stood up, the pistol immediately went off and fired a bullet into his stomach, leaving him dead on spot.
The family members immediately rushed him to hospital after hearing the gunshot. Unfortunately, he died while being taken to a Bathinda for better treatment. His body was sent to post-mortem examination for further formalities. The statement of Harpinder’s father was recorded by officials of Sadar police station after initiating proceedings under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhitha.
Harpinder was survived by his wife and two year old daughter. He recently came to India to spend some time with his family. His final rites were carried out on Tuesday and large number of friends and families came to pay their last respects.
