Israel has spent around Rs 4.49 crore on hair styling, makeup and official representation expenses for its prime ministers between January 2019 and August 2026. The figures were released by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office following a Freedom of Information petition.
Around 90 percent of the hair and makeup expenses were linked to Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara Netanyahu, who were in office for most of this period.
The spending increased significantly after Netanyahu returned as prime minister. In 2023, the government spent around Rs 98 lakh on hair and makeup, while the highest annual spending was recorded in 2025 at around Rs 1.06 crore.
The records also revealed that expenses continued during the early months of the Israel war. Around Rs 2.48 lakh was spent on Netanyahu’s hair and makeup between September and November 2023 alone.
Foreign trips also added to the bill. During a four day visit to Washington in February 2025, around Rs 12.9 lakh was reportedly spent on hair and makeup. The figures have now sparked questions over the use of public money.
