The United States administration has imposed restrictions on the green card processing capacity of several companies including Microsoft, Infosys, TCS, HCL and others. This is a significant blow to the Indian population in the United States, which was hopeful of getting green cards sponsoring through these companies.
This would essentially mean that gaining the green card in the United States is going to get that much tougher through these reputed companies. If this is the case with some of the biggest companies in the world, then one can only wonder what would be the case with normal green card applicants.
However, this prevailing situation with regard to the restrictions on the green card in the US, which is concerning the talent pool that had gone from India, Karnataka IT minister sees a big opportunity here.
According to the latest statement from Karnataka, IT Minister, Priyank Kharge “The US government’s suspension of the Permanent Labour Certification Programme for major IT outsourcing companies, a critical step through which foreign workers, including H-1B visa holders, pursue employment-based on green cards could have consequences for India that are both complex and potentially far-reaching.”
The traditional IT outsourcing manner which is known for sending employees from India to the US for their operations will take a significant blow due to this increased costs, says the IT minister.
However, the talented Cabinet minister pointed out that this opens up a big opportunity for the enhancement of domestic IT scene here in India.
Priyank says this could accelerate the expansion of Global Capability Centres, bring more global R&D, engineering and product mandates to Indian cities, increase domestic demand for senior technology talent and strengthen India’s position.
Considering the high operational costs in the United States, these leading companies could now start to operate within India, which could further help the domestic talent pool here. But this is still working in progress and would take significant time.
