Mercury Into Real Gold? Check This Fusion Technology!

In a significant development in the production of artificial gold or lab-grown gold, a San Francisco-based startup claims that nuclear fusion technology could do more than generate electricity.

The company says its technology can turn mercury into real gold and produce rare radioactive materials used in cancer treatment, potentially opening up a massive business opportunity.

Marathon Fusion believes that producing valuable medical isotopes and precious metals could help make fusion technology commercially viable long before fusion power plants become economically competitive. The company’s calculations suggest that gold may be among the least valuable products its fusion machine can produce.

Meanwhile, Fusion’s proposed technology could also produce actinium-225, a rare radioactive isotope attracting interest in targeted cancer treatments. The opportunity is linked to growing interest in targeted radiotherapy, in which radioactive isotopes are attached to molecules that seek out cancer cells. Actinium-225 could be worth billions of dollars per gram based on their market prices.
