Controversial yet Critically Acclaimed ‘Kaathal’ lands on Prime

The Malayalam film “Kaathal: The Core,” featuring Mammootty and Jyothika, was released in theaters on November 23, 2023, receiving positive reviews for the performances and handling of a sensitive subject. At the time of the film’s release, the movie also opened to a controversy in Kerala.

After being in theaters for over a month, the film is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. The team did minimal promotions for the OTT release.

Kaathal: The Core explores the political journey of Matthew (Mammootty) as a left-wing independent candidate with a strong emphasis on homosexuality. Besides Mammootty and Jyothika, the cast includes Jisshu Sengupta, Muthumani, and Joji John. Mammootty produces the film under his production banner, Mammootty Kampany.

The film triggered a big discussion on social media when it was released in theatres. Now, we hope that the OTT release would also create a discussion on homosexuality.
