OTT Recommendation: Don’t Miss Dorothy!

Some films are made to entertain us. Others leave us thinking long after they end. Dorothy belongs to the second kind.

The film is now streaming on Netflix, and its Telugu version gives more viewers a chance to discover this unusual story. Director Karthik Subbaraj chooses a subject that many filmmakers may hesitate to touch. He tells it through the lives of two friends and the changes that begin when Dorothy comes into their world.

The film’s strength is its raw, grounded approach. It does not rush to explain everything or follow the usual commercial formula. Instead, it shows how society’s rules and prejudices affect people and their relationships. Keerthy Suresh has a brief but memorable role, while Ilaiyaraaja’s music adds feeling to the story.

The film has received different reactions. Some viewers are appreciating its bold subject and the director’s way of presenting it. Others are uncomfortable with the ideas it explores. That difference in response is understandable: Dorothy is not a film made to please everyone.

Telugu cinema rarely takes up stories like this. Commercial expectations often make filmmakers careful about choosing subjects that may divide audiences. That is why Dorothy feels like a different kind of watch. It may not be for everyone, but if you are looking for a film beyond the usual commercial entertainment, you can give it a try on Netflix.
