Foreign Students In USA: Guess Who Topped The List?

For many decades now, India has been one of the leading exporters (if we can put it that way) of international students to the USA. The trend is becoming increasingly prevalent in recent years and it is not slowing down one bit yet.

In this connection, it has now been established that India is now the country with the highest number of students traveling to the USA. This is the first time India has beaten China on this list and here is a look into the same.

For the academic year 2023-2024, India had sent a whopping 3.30 lakh students to the USA for higher studies. This supersedes China’s tally of 2.77 lakh. This is the first time ever that India has sent more students to the USA than the conventional topper – China.

In total, US had 11.26 lakh international students for the mentioned academic years and a whopping 29% of them are from India.

To put that into perspective, around 3 out of every 10 international students in the USA are from India. More prevalently for the Telugu states, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have table-topping stats when it comes to Indian states with the highest number of international students.

On a related note, only 1355 students who went from India to the USA in the mentioned academic year had come back to India, which is a shockingly low number.
