After facing several restrictions on visas, US immigrants are now reeling under a different trouble. With visa appointment slots vanishing abruptly ahead of the Fall 2025 academic admission season’s deadline, several aspirants who planned to pursue academics in US are facing uncertainty. Since mid-March, visa interview appointments have become unavailable, shattering the US education dreams.
Thousands of students from Ahmedabad, who were planning to fly to the foreign country for their higher studies, were upset with their visa appointments going off the radar.
It is significant to know that the latest development comes amid US President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigrants and US varsities. The January intake went smooth but in the last 20-25 days, the situation has changed. The unavailability of visa interview appointments has left aspirants as well as visa consultancies in a quandary.
Students are under immense pressure as they have obtained their admissions and I-20 forms from the US universities but visa interview slots are not available. Students who booked appointments in Feb or early March received April slots but there is no action from the officials concerned. No appointment dates have been given for May.
According to sources, the brakes on the visa interview slots is also partially due to the crackdown by the US Embassy in India. “The US embassy is upgrading its systems to plug loopholes — to avoid misuse through illegal methods to grab visa appointment slots.
There is no information over when the new slots will be made available. As families of many students had already paid the university fees, arranged for the travel and secured housing in the US, the unavailability of the visa interview slots has come as a shocker.
