Trump Plans Pickle Tax ?: NRIs In ‘Pickle’

Despite rallies protesting against US President Donald Trump’s new policies, he is determined to continue with his MAGA campaign. As part of it, he shifted focus towards the petty trading from India.

Non-resident Telugus (NRTs) in the USA should gear up for imposition of toughest rules in the days to come. Trump’s focus has fallen on pickles being imported indiscriminately from India. He is leaving no source of revenue. He is readying to impose taxes on pickles brought into the country even by friends and relatives. Several people ask their friends or kin to fetch them things they need while travelling to the US. So far, such goods never attracted taxes in the foreign country but henceforth, even such goods are likely to face taxation.

The Trump government is planning to impose taxes on foreign goods brought by individuals or through WhatsApp. From now onwards, even these channels would be under the officials’ scanner.

In case, taxes are not paid, heavy fines would be levied. Like in India, even in the US, many Telugus and people from other states are doing business through social media handles, supplying several goods to their customers in the US.

The products are being procured from India and then supplied to NRIs in the US through courier. A few others are earning bucks through businesses on apps. All this petty trade is being done without paying any taxes. Trump wants to make these petty trades as source of income to his government, as part of which taxes would be imposed both on the seller and customer.
