The Trump administration in the USA is acting strictly against foreign individuals, especially students who seek a visa. It has already been confirmed that officials are also scanning the social media profiles of the applicants. In a recent development, it has been revealed that a 21-year-old tourist from Norway, Mads Mikkelsen, claims he was sent back from the USA after officials found a meme saved on his phone.
According to Mads Mikkelsen, the meme saved on his phone depicted US Vice President JD Vance with a bald head and a cartoonish face. As soon as Mikkelsen landed at the airport in New Jersey, but the immigration officials questioned him.
The officials took him to a special room where he was asked to hand over his shoes, mobile phone, and backpack. And then, the officials also reportedly accused him of being involved in drug trafficking, terrorist plots as well as right-wing extremism.
Mikkelsen also clarified that the meme was saved automatically from a group chat app, and it was meant as a joke. Additionally, the officials also did not like one of his pictures, where he was holding a handmade wooden pipe.
“Both pictures had been automatically saved to my camera roll from a chat app, but I really didn’t think that these innocent pictures would put a stop to my entry into the country,” he said.
According to Mikkelsen, the officers pressured him to unlock his phone and threatened him with jail time or a fine of $5,000 if he refused.
