Indian Attacked, Racially Abused in Australia

In yet another ‘racist’ attack on an Indian, an NRI was allegedly brutally assaulted and racially abused by a group of unidentified men during a dispute at the car parking area in Adelaide last week. According to The Australia Today, Charanpreet Singh and his wife were out in their car for sightseeing when the incident took place near Kintore Avenue at 9.22 pm on Saturday. The report said that the victim was a student.

According to Singh, a group of men hurled racial abuse while approaching him and launched an unprovoked physical attack. According to Singh, “They just said ‘f— off, Indian’, and after that they just started punching,” 9News quoted him as saying. “I tried to fight back, but they beat me until I was unconscious.”  Singh said that when such things happen, NRIs feel they should return home. “We cannot change the colour of our body.”

Some videos purported to be of the attack showed Singh being attacked by five men, armed with metal knuckles or sharp objects. In the video, the Indian is seen being punched by the assailants in his face and stomach continuously. A woman recording the assault screams in fear and tried to stop them but in vain. After some time, the accused returned to their vehicle when Singh became unconscious. Reports said that the Indian received multiple injuries, including brain trauma and multiple facial fractures. Soon he was shifted to Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he received treatment.

Police said that a 20-year-old youth was arrested from Enfield and charged with assault causing harm. Police sought the assistance of people in tracking down the guilty.
