A dream job landed a young woman in immense trouble on foreign shores. Twentyfour-year-old Ameena Begum, a resident of Konda Reddy Guda in Hyderabad, contacted a local travel agent seeking a job in Dubai. On May 18, 2025, she reportedly left for Dubai after the travel agent informed her about a job in a beauty parlour.
After her arrival at the Dubai airport, she was arrested after the authorities found illegal drugs in a bag she was carrying with her. Ameena’s mother, Sultana Begum, wrote a letter to the Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar, claiming that her daughter was unaware of the contents in the bag, as it was given to her to be handed over to someone in Dubai. She mentioned that Ameena called them from the jail and iterated that she is innocent.
In the letter, her mother also stated about Ameena’s five-year-old son, Mohd Zeeshan, who was crying for his mother and even fell sick. Separated from his mother, he is crying relentlessly.
The family made an urgent plea to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) seeking immediate assistance to bring back Ameena safely. They also reached out to the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Indian Consulate in Dubai, seeking swift action for her release.
They believe Ameena has been unknowingly used as a drug carrier and is seeking an investigation of the local travel agent who arranged the job for her.
