Four Indian-Americans Die in Tragic US Road Accident

In a heartbreaking incident, four Indian-origin family members lost their lives in a car crash while on a spiritual trip in the United States. The victims, all from the same family in New York, were traveling to the famous “Prabhupada’s Palace of Gold” in West Virginia when the accident occurred.

Authorities identified the deceased as Kishore Diwan (89), Asha Diwan (85), Shailesh Diwan (86), and Geeta Diwan (84). On July 29, they set out on their journey in a 2009 Toyota Camry. Unfortunately, while passing through Big Wheeling Creek Road in Marshall County, their car plunged into a deep valley around 9:30 PM on Saturday night. Sheriff Mike Dougherty of Marshall County officially confirmed their deaths at the scene.

The family was last seen at a Burger King in Pennsylvania, where CCTV footage captured two of them entering the restaurant. Their final credit card transaction was also recorded there. Later, a state police camera tracked their vehicle heading toward Pittsburgh on Interstate 79.

After the family was reported missing, a joint search operation was launched by police in Marshall and Ohio counties, along with a report filed in the National Crime Information Center. Their car was eventually located deep in the valley. Rescue teams worked for nearly five hours to recover the bodies.

The tragedy has deeply affected the Indian-American community. The Council of Heritage and Arts of India (CHAI), based in New York, expressed shock and sorrow. CHAI president Sibu Nair said the community had hoped for their safe return and was devastated by the outcome. Local police have launched an investigation into the incident.
