For the first time since 2001, the number of Indians travelling to the United States has dropped sharply. This is not due to Covid restrictions, but because of multiple issues linked to the present US administration under Donald Trump.
Recent data shows a clear dip in Indian visitors to America compared to last year. Many factors are being blamed, from stricter visa rules to high tariffs and even the overall slowdown in jobs for foreigners in the US.
Indians usually form one of the biggest overseas groups visiting the US, but now the trend is reversing. Travel agencies say students, tech workers, and even tourists are rethinking their plans. The new $250 visa integrity fee and tough immigration checks have added to the hesitation.
The American job market also looks uncertain with fewer opportunities for Indian professionals, especially in IT and research sectors. Business travelers too are cutting down, as tariff wars have made trade deals unstable.
All these reasons combined are leading to the lowest number of Indian visitors to the US in more than two decades.
