A horrific car accident in Essex, UK, early Monday claimed the lives of two young Telugu students, one of whom hailed from Hyderabad, and seriously injured seven more. The second victim is also believed to be from Hyderabad. One of the victims was identified as Rishiteja Rapolu (21). His parents live in Boduppal.
The accident happened on the Dual Carriageway A130 at the Rayleigh Spur roundabout, according to Essex police. 9 friends and roommates, all from the Ilford-Barking area, were traveling to Southend-on-Sea when the tragedy struck. The injured were airlifted to the Royal London Hospital, where the two seriously injured Telugu students breathed their last.
The impact of the collision was so strong that the Essex Fire and Rescue Service has closed the dual carriageway between the Rettendon Turnpike at Battlesbridge (A1245) and the Sadlers Farm roundabout (A13) at South Benfleet for several miles.
The Essex police informed the media that the drivers of the two cars have been taken into custody on suspicion of causing death and serious injury through dangerous driving. The drivers are aged 23 and 24.
