A shocking incident took place in East Dallas, Texas, where a 50-year-old Indian man from Karnataka, Chandra Nagamallaiah, was killed at his workplace.
He had been managing a motel for the past few years. On September 10, an argument broke out with his co-worker, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, over a broken washing machine. The fight turned violent, and Nagamallaiah was attacked in front of his wife and teenage son.
Police arrested the attacker at the scene. He has been charged with murder and is now in jail. Reports say he had a violent past and had been released earlier by immigration officials despite a removal order.
The Indian Consulate in Houston has expressed condolences and is helping the family. Community members described Nagamallaiah as a hardworking man, and a fundraiser has been started to support his wife and son.
The incident has deeply shocked the Indian community in the US and raised concerns about the safety of immigrant workers.
