Trump’s First Reaction to Not Receiving the Nobel Prize

Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who had reportedly run an active campaign to win the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize, faced disappointment when Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado was announced as this year’s recipient.

However, in a surprising twist, Trump has now claimed that Machado personally called him to dedicate the award in his honour. Speaking to press, Trump said, “The person who got the Nobel Prize called me today and said, ‘I’m accepting this in honour of you because you really deserved it.’ I didn’t say, ‘Give it to me,’ though. I think she might have… I’ve been helping her along the way. I’m happy because I saved millions of lives.”

Earlier, Maria Machado had also posted a statement on social media, confirming that she was dedicating her Nobel Peace Prize to the people of Venezuela and to President Donald Trump.

“This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task to conquer freedom. We count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our allies to achieve democracy,” she stated.

She further added, “I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause.”

While Trump may not have officially received the Nobel Peace Prize, the fact that the recipient publicly acknowledged him and dedicated the award in his honour appears to have given him a moment of pride, and a reason to celebrate.
