Moonlighting: Indian Man To Get 15 Yrs Jail In US?

The number of crimes and antisocial activities committed by the Indian population in the United States has been on an alarming race in the recent past. And now we have another one such incident involving an Indian origin man who could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison in the United States.

Going into the story, Indian origin tech expert Mehul Goswami had been working at the New York State Office Of Information and Technology Services. On the other hand, he had also been working part-time at a different private company as a contractor.

According to the United States federal law, it is against the regulation to work at a private organisation while already being employed at a state office. Subsequently, he was found guilty of “Moonlighting” which means he is proven to be working illicitly at a private company while already having a full time government job.

On top of that, he is also accused of stealing roughly INR 44 lakh while working at the government office. The case is still in hearing at the court and further judgement is awaited.

If Goswami is proven guilty of all charges, he could get upto 15 years jail term which would be an agonisingly elongated period.
