In a racially aggravated crime, a white male is suspected to have raped a woman of Indian heritage in northern England. The UK police issued an urgent appeal to trace the ‘white male’.
According to reports, the West Midlands police on Saturday evening, received a call asking them to rush to Park Hall area of Walsall, when concerns for the welfare of a woman, in her 20s. She was in distress in the street. The police released CCTV camera footage of the suspect as part of a public appeal for information and confirmed that they are treating the crime as a racially aggravated attack.
Detective Superintendent (DS) Ronan Tyrer said that it was an absolutely appalling attack on a young woman. Police is doing everything to arrest the responsible. Teams of officers are recovering evidence and building a profile of the attacker so that he can be taken into custody, he said. However, he said that it is important to hear from anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously in the area at the time, for a major breakthrough.
At the time of the attack, the white man is said to be white and in his 30s, with short hair and wearing dark clothes. The victim, according to community groups, is claimed to be a Punjabi woman. A few weeks earlier, there had been another racially aggravated rape of a British Sikh woman in nearby Oldbury area.
All the forces including specialist officers from the force’s Public Protection unit, local policing officers, and forensic officers are said to be working to recover the CCTV camera footage, interact with the witnesses and identify the suspect.
Meanwhile, Sikh Federation UK quoted local sources to say that the young woman who was raped in Walsall is a Punjabi woman.
