Texas Teen Who Killed Six Indians in Crash Gets 65 Years in Jail

A tragic road accident in Texas that killed six members of an Indian family two years ago has finally seen justice. Nineteen-year-old Luke Garrett Resecker has been sentenced to 65 years in prison for causing the fatal crash.

Resecker, who was 17 at the time, was driving under the influence of THC, the main chemical in marijuana. His truck crossed into the opposite lane and hit a van head-on, killing six people instantly. The crash happened on December 26, 2023, on US Highway 67 near Cleburne, Texas.

The victims were returning home after visiting the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose. Those who died were identified as Rushil Barri (28) from Irving and five relatives from Georgia — Naveena Ptabathula (36), Nageswararao Ponnada (64), Sitamahalakshmi Ponnada (60), Krithik Ptabathula (10) and Nishidha Potabathula (9).

The only survivor, Lokesh Potabathula, lost his wife, two children, cousin, and in-laws in the crash. He was left paralyzed from the waist down.

Police found THC wax, a vape pen, and marijuana inside Resecker’s truck. Tests confirmed he had active THC in his system during the crash. His friend and passenger, Preston Glass, suffered a severe brain injury.

Resecker faced multiple charges, including intoxication manslaughter and possession of drugs. Investigators said the crash could have been completely avoided if he hadn’t been driving under the influence.
