Visa issues continue to persist in the US. While H-1B interviews have been mass rescheduled in India, many US-based temporary work visa holders received emails stating that their visas have been prudentially revoked, which means visas which were cleared previously would be re-reviewed. It is significant to note that the development comes after the US authorities conveyed plans to enhance social media scrutiny of the applicants.
A prudential visa revocation means a temporary, precautionary action taken out of prudence, but not denying the visa permanently. It is done as part of caution, especially when the government suspects there might be an issue with the visa holder’s eligibility, but could not be fully identified.
It is learnt that visa revocations for H-1B and H-4 visa holders are rising even when the applicants had been scrutinized by the law enforcement agencies and declared they have no convictions.
A revocation does not affect the lawful stay in the US but it means the visa will be re-examined at the next visa appointment. An individual on a prudential visa revocation can remain in the US till the visa expires naturally. However, the individual cannot re-enter the US, if they leave the country, even if the visa has not expired.
