Over 30 Indian nationals were arrested by border patrol agents as they have staying illegally, making a living by driving semitrucks with comercial driving licences.
The arrests were done during routine vehicle checking at immigration checkpoints and in inter agency operations.
According to US Customs and Border Protection, border patrol agents in the El Centro sector in California arrested 49 illegal immigrants with commercial driver licences. Of those arrested, 30 were from India, and the others from China. Haiti, Russia, Ukraine and other countries.
On December 10 and 11, Indio Station agents conducted Operation Highway Sentinel, a two-day large-scale enforcement operation, led by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security investigations in Ontario and California.
The Operation Highway Sentinel specifically targeted commercial trucking companies in California following fatal accidents by illegal immigrants, who secured commercial driving licences and drove semitrucks involved in tragedies.
The interagency operation aimed to enforce immigration law violations, safeguard US highways and protect regulatory standards in the commercial transportation sector.
In the last few months, Indian nationals, including Rajinder Kumar, Harjinder Singh, and Pratap Singh, were involved in negligent vehicle crashes that led to fatal accidents, resulting in the deaths of Americans in the US.
In October, ICE officials arrested Jashanpreet Singh who killed three people in California while driving an 18-wheeler under the influence of drugs.
