Telugu Man Accused Of Sexual Assault on Minor Detained In US

Vodela Yashaswi Kottapalli, an Indian national, was detained by the US immigration authorities on multiple charges, including sexual assault of a minor, shoplifting and public disorder, in New Jersey.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials, in a statement on social media, termed him “a criminal illegal alien from India”. He had been living in the US without legal status and larceny, ICE said.

The detention was made during the intensified ICE crackdown on immigrants, in the Trump administration. The ICE officials also shared an image of Kottapalli with the words “child rapist” prominently displayed across the photograph.

The ICE authorities also said that he will remain in detention as the immigration officers initiate deportation proceedings against him. The officials made it clear that Kottapalli will not be released during the legal process.

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), nearly 6,75,000 migrants were deported since Trump returned to office last year. Over 2.2 million others have self-deported after the enforcement authorities intensified the deportation drive.
