A shocking case of mistaken identity has taken the life of 57 year old Indian origin, Avtar Singh in California. The incident happened in Tracy and has left the local Sikh community in deep grief.
Avtar Singh was kidnapped on February 17 in broad daylight outside a gurdwara where he had been serving for many years. After three days of search, his body was found near Lake Berryessa, nearly two hours away from Tracy.
Police said this was not a random crime. However, investigators believe Singh was not the actual target and was taken by mistake. The case is now being treated as a homicide.
Singh was a respected member of the local Sikh community. For more than 20 years, he worked as the head cook at the temple and was known for his kind nature and dedication. His death has devastated his family. He is survived by his wife and six month old triplets who were born prematurely and had only recently returned home.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation. So far, no suspects have been identified and the exact cause of death has not been made public.
