An Indian-origin man, Tarsem Singh, has been indicted in the US on multiple felony charges for crashing his car that killed a pregnant teenager and her unborn child. The case has been adjourned to April 3 for next hearing. Authorities set Singh’s bond at $1 million.
Singh was allegedly driving a Land Rover Range Rover Velar at extremely high speed and police who spotted the vehicle being driven rashly at a high speed, began chasing him, which led to the crash in Ohio in February. Police said that the vehicle was travelling at around 100 miles per hour before the collision.
Instead of stopping the vehicle when the police identified that he was driving the vehicle at high speed, he accelerated the vehicle and it ended in a head-on collision with a Jeep Cherokee.
Following the crash, the teenager, who was 17-year-old and travelling in Singh’s SUV was ejected from the vehicle and died of injuries.
Reportedly, Singh also sustained injuries and was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment. Later, he was taken into custody.
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, on X, tweeted: “Indian criminal illegal alien Tarsem Singh’s crash injuries are slight compared to those of his 17-YEAR-OLD PREGNANT PASSENGER Ashlee Holmes and her UNBORN CHILD, who were allegedly thrown from his Range Rover and KILLED when he crashed after fleeing from Ohio police at 100 MPH.”
Reports said that Singh has pleaded not guilty to the charges. An immigration detainer has been placed on Singh which means if he is convicted, deportation proceedings could follow.
