Indian Man Arrested In USA For Gold Scam

The incidence of NRIs involving in crimes out of desperation to survive and getting charged for various offences in abroad keeps increasing day by day as numerous instances come to light through local media reports of the destination countries.

According to the latest reports, an Indian origin man named Nigam Bhatt, who is currently on a work Visa in USA has been arrested for allegedly cheating an elderly person in a gold scam. He was booked on extortion charges and taken into custody for further trail. He is accused of scamming an elderly Tangipahoa Parish man and extorting thousands of dollars in gold.

The 25 year old is a Software Engineer working in USA on H-1B Visa for an MNC. He hails from Gujarat state. He completed his masters and currently residing in USA on work visa.

The modus operandi deployed by Nigam Bhatt involves contacting victims and warning them that their bank accounts and social security benefits were frozen which would be released only by exchanging gold in return. He is said to be particularly targeting senior citizens and extracting thousands of dollars to facilitate his lavish life style in USA.

As repeated complaints of similar frauds were reported, the local authorities launched a investigation in which they found that Nigam is one of the offenders who is orchestrating the crime in a same manner and already scammed several individuals around the locality. When he was just about to defraud an elderly man of more than $800,000 in gold, cops have apprehended him on April 7 in Kentwood.
