Indian Nabbed by Australian Police in ₹90 Cr Theft Case

India nationals residing abroad on various Visas are increasingly involving in different crimes and making it to headlines after getting caught by the local police authorities. What is more shocking is that some of them even resort to stealing from local stores to survive or to facilitate their lavish lifestyle. 

As per the latest reports, an Indian national has been nabbed by the Australian police in an alleged supermarket heist cracked after months long investigation. Shockingly, the Indian origin individual is found to be living illegally in Australia on expired Visa. The identity of the person has not been revealed as of now. 

According to police, a group of 31 persons is involved in this organized retail network theft. They are accused of stealing up to $ 10 Million ( around 90 Crore in indian rupees ) goods from different stores across Victoria state over a period of several months. Among those arrested includes a 39 year old Indian national with no valid Australian Visa. 

He is accused of stealing around $160,000 ( around 1.5 crore ) worth of goods over several months. Authorities say he faces 68 counts of theft and 19 counts of attempted theft. He is a part of the crime group which used to target high value every day items from different stores and later sell them to customers in the black market. 

During investigation it was revealed that members of this group used to travel long distances frequently to manufacture the crime in locations like Melbourne, Geelong and Ballarat. So far, 18 people have been jailed after being convicted and 10 others are going through trail in Courts.
