Is UK Work Culture Easing NRIs’ Life?

With Trump government increasing the surveillance on immigrants, particularly from India, tech employees can seek greener pastures in the UK.

A video posted recently on Instagram draws attention towards the significant contrast with regard to work-life balance in the UK and India.

Two techies, Kartik Modi and Harendra Sharma, highlighted the facility they were enjoying — wrapping up their work before 5pm and reaching a tranquil beach within minutes, which they felt was unimaginable in India.

Though the two techies said they did not want to criticize India but only point out the differences, the video sparked a debate among netizens about employee well-being, job expectations, company policies, individual roles, and work-life balance.

Modi, with a drink in his hand and visibly enjoying the beach view, said such moments give a good experience in the middle of work, reflect a work-personal life balance.

The other techie, Sharma, also agreed with Modi and reminisced that working in India, many times, made him feel tired and exhausted but in UK, he said it is a fulfilling routine.

Both the techies, having experience in reputed firms like Microsoft in India, said in India, employees are praised only for work, which does not mean the quality of personal life is also flourishing.

They said the lifestyle in UK is comparatively better than their work experience in Microsoft-India. The video gives a hint that NRIs are living a better life in foreign countries than in their native places.

While comparing India and UK with regard to the lifestyle, the techies said India has strong professional opportunities, but the management’s expectations could sometimes leave little time for the employee to enjoy his personal life.

The online discussion on work-life balance highlighted a clear picture that the current generation of employees are focused on quality of personal life and productivity too. The video showcases the views of only two techies but can it be generalized and considered that all NRIs are echoing the same feelings?
