Some Indian origin individuals are resorting to extreme forms of criminality for easy money and survival in foreign countries despite the fact that they will face serious consequences after being caught by the law enforcement agencies and will be later deported out.
In what could be another similar case that falls into this category, a 22-year-old Indian national has pleaded guilty in a Court of United States for his role in a purported human smuggling operation that illegally brought migrants from Canada into the US through the northern border.
The suspect identified as Shivam Lnu is accused of acting as a key coordinator in an illicit network that transported undocumented migrants into the United States. Shivam is accused of playing an instrumental role within the syndicate as he used to coordinate logistical operations on the American side of the border between October 2024 and June 2025 during which several migrants crossed the US – Canada border illegally.
According to the Court records, Shivam recruited and managed a network of drivers tasked with picking up migrants. The drivers were allegedly paid a flat rate of $100 per head for each migrant they successfully transported into the country. These migrants were reportedly hidden in designated houses and some locals hotels to be later moved further into the interiors of United States.
Shivam was arrested in January following a multi-agency investigation targeting heightened human smuggling activities along the northern border. He now faces federal charges related to alien smuggling and conspiracy and might be sentenced to imprisonment between five years and fifteen years.
A federal district court judge will determine the sentence after considering the US Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. The judgement will be given on September 4th.
